Description: The lsass.exe system process of the Microsoft Windows security mechanism specifically deals with local security and login policies. It is the Local Security Authentication Server which checks and verifies the validity of user logons to your PC/Server. In doing so, it instigates the processes responsible for verifying and validating user’s identities for the Winlogon service. Assuming that such a process is successful, then Lsass.exe generates the user's access validation, which is then in turn used to launch the PC’s start up procedure. The genuine lsass.exe file is to be found in the folder C:\Windows\System32.
Possible Issues: If it is discovered anywhere else on your PC, then the ‘lsass.exe’ that you have just located is, in all probability, a virus, Trojan or some other form of malware.
